The ceremony started with 2008 drummers withs illuminated drums. When the drum are striked, they will be lighted up. They used these drums to countdown and the last 1o seconds used chinese together with the arabic numbers. Then, there was a show of fireworks and the drummers performed again...
After that there were a few events but i'm too lazy to blog about it. They had fireworks all over Beijing city with 29 fireworks in the shape of footsteps leading to the stadium to represent all the other 28 Olympic Games. I think the part where the center stage became a big screen is also amazing. At first it was a scroll in the short film and then it became a scroll that was on the floor of the stadium itself roling open to reveal the big screen on the floor of the bird nest. All the performance was extremely synchronised it was really a once in a life time thing to watch.
I think the highlight of the ceremony was the last torch bearer and the way the Olympic Torch was lighted. The last torch bearer was a gold medalist for China in a few of the Olympic Games. He was lifted into the air and ran around the roof of the stadium horizontally before he reached the torch. when he lighted the fire, it went up in a spiral pattern before reaching the the top of the torch. It was an unforgettable experince. The only disappointment of the opening ceremony is that they did not bring their 5mascots (the 5 cute pandas) out... I got this pic from google, i think its really cute.
